Grace, Heritage open with wins

FREDERICK, Md. - Sarah Britton scored 18 points and added three steals as Heritage Academy opened its season Tuesday with a 62-40 win over Maryland School for the Deaf.

Julie Poe had nine rebounds for Heritage (1-0).

Grace 54, Rosedale 27

GLEN BURNIE, Md. - Joanna Conner had 29 points, 12 steals and seven rebounds as Grace Academy beat Rosedale Christian Academy.

Sarah Conner had 11 points and eight rebounds for Grace (1-0).

Broadfording 61, MCA 21

Vennece Fowlkes had 14 points, 12 rebounds and five steals to lead Broadfording over Martinsburg Christian.

B'nai Holt had seven points, nine assists and seven steals for Broadfording (3-0). Bianca Holt had 16 points and four assists, and Ashley Mason added 10 points and five steals.


Mary Carper led Martinsburg Christian with eight points.


Broadfording 66, MCA 47

Casey Glover had 18 points, seven rebounds and eight assists as Broadfording defeated Martinsburg Christian

Dan Burkhart had 18 points and 13 rebounds for Broadfording (3-0). Carvey Wright had 17 points and seven rebounds.

Justin Gay led all scorers with 24 points for MCA.

MSD 56, Heritage 45

GLEN BURNIE, Md. - Carlos Rorrero scored 17 points as Maryland School for the Deaf beat Heritage Academy in its opener.

Micha Shatzer led Heritage (0-1) with 11 points. Jon Britton had eight points and 10 rebounds.


Folmar back on ECAC team

CENTREVILLE, Mass. - Former Chambersburg High quarterback Drew Folmar, last year's Rookie of the Year, was named first-team quarterback on the 1998 ECAC South Division II football team.

Folmar, a sophomore at Millersville University, was also a regional semifinalist for the Harlon Hill Award, annually given to the most valuable player in Division II. Folmar finished the season with 30 TD passes and 3,039 yards passing for the season. He completed 220 of 334 throws to finish second in the country in pass efficiency at 164.8.
