FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick Keys took another step to bringing Baltimore tradition closer to home Monday when two former Orioles fan favorites were named to the Single-A team's coaching staff.
Former Baltimore catcher Andy Etchebarren was named the Keys manager for the 1999 season while former infielder Floyd Rayford was assigned coaching duties.
Etchebarren spent 15 seasons catching in the major leagues, including 11 with the Orioles. Etchebarren's career was highlighted when he caught for the Orioles' 1966 World Championship team. He also spent time playing for the California Angels and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Etchebarren worked as a minor league catching instructor for the Brewers and also gave clinics worldwide on military bases. He spent four years managing Baltimore's rookie league team in Bluefield.
