Sarah M. Myers

SMITHSBURG - Sarah Margaret Myers, 89, of Whitetail Road, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 10, 1909, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late John Daniel and Charlotte Susan Boling Eck.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Earl Myers, in 1970.

She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte M. Newcomer of Ringgold, and Margaret L. Kline of Greensburg, Md.; a son, Howard E. Myers of Greensburg; two sisters, Anna Corwell and Teresa Hartman, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; two brothers, Joseph Eck and Paul Eck, both of Waynesboro, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Finfrock and Adell Schwinger; and three brothers, William Eck, John Eck and Leo Eck.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. Pastor Dean Mouk will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Leitersburg.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Shirley J. Buchanan

STATE LINE, Pa. - Shirley J. Stoner Buchanan, 63, of 450 Hykes Road, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Born Aug. 28, 1935, in Mount Union, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clifford C. and Helen A. Snyder Stoner.

She attended Mount Union High School; and received her GED from Waynesboro Area Senior High School.

She was employed early in life at Crubb's Diner in Mount Union. Prior to retiring in October 1997, she was the cashier at Earl's Market, State Line for 22 years.

She was judge of elections at State Line.

She was a member of State Line United Methodist Church, and King's Children Sunday School Class.

She was a member of National AARP; and a charter member of Middleburg-Mason Dixon Historical Society of State Line.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde M. Buchanan, whom she married July 19, 1961; two daughters, Susan R. Witmyer of York, Pa., and Leslie B. Crum of State Line; a son, Scott D. Buchanan of Greencastle; two brothers, Dr. Larry C. Stoner of Syracuse, N.Y., and Terry A. Stoner of Altoona, Pa.; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Eric L. Stoner; and a granddaughter, Emily R. Witmyer.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, Pa. Pastor Harold Hollister will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, Pa.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alice S. Smalley

SMITHSBURG - Alice Sarah Clapp Smalley, 96, of Smithsburg and formerly of Gloversville, N.Y., died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at her daughter's home in Smithsburg.

Born April 19, 1902, in Mansfield, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Andrew Fisher and Edith Luella Scott Clapp.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Smalley.

She was a 1930 graduate of Hartford Hospital Training School for Nursing.

She was a private duty nurse in upstate New York.

She was a deaconate of First Congregational Church of Christ in Gloversville; and an associate member of Central Union Church of Honolulu.

She was a member of Fort Nightly Group; Hartford Hospital Training School for Nursing Alumnae Association; and a charter member of Mansfield Historical Society.

She is survived by two daughters, Emma Lou Davis of Smithsburg and Ruth S. Stepulis of Honolulu; a granddaughter, Anna Davis Gordon of Baltimore; a grandson, Jonathan Davis of Holdenville, Okla.; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth N. Clapp; and a brother, Howard Andrew Clapp.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Friends may call at the home of her daughter in Smithsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County Inc., 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, MD 21740; First Congregational Church of Gloversville, NY; or Central Union Church of Honolulu, Hawaii.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Sarah F. Hilker

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Sarah Frances "Pete" Hilker, 66, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Born Aug. 17, 1932, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Daniel and Sarah F. Kimes Saylor.

She was a bus driver for the Berkeley County School System.

She was a member of Moler Avenue Church of the Brethren.

She was a past member of Mothers of the Moose Chapter 120.
