A bank bag containing more than $7,000 in bank deposits has been reported missing by personnel at Hagerstown Ford at 1714 Massey Blvd., Washington County Sheriff's deputies said.

Deputy M.E. Hansberger responded at 3 p.m. Monday and learned that the bag contained $2,409.04 cash and personal checks.




WILLIAMSPORT - A number of Williamsport residents awoke Tuesday morning to discover they had been victimized by someone with a BB gun.

Washington County Sheriff's deputies received reports that as many as a dozen vehicle windows had been shot out along West Potomac Street and adjacents streets.

Deputies were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. and learned that a witness got a good description of the suspect vehicle.

The car was described as either a dark-colored Chevrolet Beretta or a Dodge Neon with a yellow stripe across the windshield.

Using that description and information about the car's Maryland tags, deputies are continuing were continuing investigation Tuesday.




A 70-year-old pedestrian hit by a Washington County Commuter bus remained in fair condition at Washington County Hospital Tuesday.

Neither the bus driver, Sherry Bowers, nor the pedestrian, Herbert Dotson, of Westminster, Md., was at fault, according to a report by Hagerstown Police Department Officer Angela Poole.

The accident happened shortly before 10 a.m. Monday.

Bowers, 60, of Hagerstown, had a green light as she made a right turn from Washington Street onto Potomac Street, said Sgt. Mark Renner.

Dotson had a green walk signal as he walked from east to west on the Potomac Street crosswalk, Renner said.




Local authorities were looking for a white Jeep Grand Cherokee with West Virginia tags with four people inside who allegedly beat up a Clear Spring man in the New Del Mar Inn parking lot early Saturday

The victim, who suffered a broken jaw, dislocated shoulder and cuts, was treated and released Saturday.

Deputy Greg Alton responded to the bar at 1:15 a.m. Saturday and learned that the victim had been involved in an argument with the four people.

Witnesses said the victim fell to the ground and was kicked several times, deputies said. He was taken to Washington County Hospital.

A Hagerstown man was apprehended Monday after allegedly refusing to stop his car when requested by police and fled on foot, according to Hagerstown City Police.

Troy L. Barrington, 19, of 165 N. Potomac St., was charged with fleeing and eluding, driving on a suspended driver's license, possession with attempt to distribute crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine, resisting arrest and numerous traffic offenses.

Officer Johnny Murray attempted to stop a 1998 Ford Escort in the 900 block of Lanvale St. at 7:32 p.m. for displaying improper vehicle registration.

The driver did not stop, abandoned his car on Summer Street and took off on foot, police alleged.

The driver was found under a porch in the 800 block of West Washington Street, police said.

Police found a quantity of crack cocaine on the driver at the time of the arrest.
