FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police said a Fayetteville man was killed Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle struck the side of a pickup truck.

Kelley R. Powell, 38, of 120 Perry Road, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Franklin County Coroner Kenneth L. Peiffer. He died of multiple trauma, according to Peiffer.

Peiffer said Powell died instantly in the 5:40 p.m. accident on West Main Street in Fayetteville.

Powell, who was wearing a helmet, was riding eastbound on a Harley Davidson motorcycle when he struck a pickup driven by Dennis O. House Jr., of 58 W. Main St., Fayetteville, according to police.

House was backing out of his driveway when the motorcycle hit the truck just behind the cab. Peiffer said the impact demolished the bed of the truck and spun the vehicle around.

Peiffer said Powell was thrown about 35 feet and the motorcycle skidded more than 75 feet past the point of impact. He said Powell was traveling well in excess of the 35 mph speed limit on West Main Street.

Members of Powell's family could not be reached Monday night.

State police said Monday the accident was still being investigated.
