Grape extract to be sprayed second time

November 23, 1998

Downtown Hagerstown will be sprayed with a grape extract for the second time tonight in an attempt to ward off starlings and blackbirds.

The birds have been pelting the downtown area with their droppings in recent weeks.

City Engineer Bruce Johnston said the spray will be administered by J.C. Ehrlich Co. Inc. three times. The first spraying was Sunday night.

Crews will trim trees along Washington Street today to discourage the birds from roosting in them, Johnston said.

No parking will be allowed this morning on the south side of Washington Street between Summit Avenue and Locust Street.
