The City of Hagerstown's Christmas tree was lighted Monday night in Public Square.

This is the second time the tree has been in the southeast quadrant of the square. Last year the tree was lighted while that corner of the square was still being renovated.

The tree previously stood in the northeast corner of the square. Decades ago it stood in the center of the intersection of Washington and Potomac streets.

After the tree lighting, Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II told Santa Claus he had been good this year.

"I want to wish everybody a merry, merry Christmas," Santa said.

Santa said boys and girls need to be good and mail their letters to him.

"I'm getting thousands and thousands every day," Santa said.
