Decision to hire planner tabled

November 19, 1998

The Washington County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association voted on Thursday to table until next year a previous decision to hire an emergency medical services administrative planner.

Eleven companies voted in favor of tabling it, 6 against and 9 abstained.

Members of several ambulance companies asked to hold off on filling the position, saying that it is not needed.

In October, the association agreed to pursue whether it was feasible to hire a planner at a rate of $20,000 to $25,000 a year.

Since then association committee members reviewed a job description and advertised for the position, said President Jay Grimes.

Grimes said the person hired would work closely with Washington County Hospital in coordinating quality assurance training, scheduling classes, overseeing volunteers and maintaining certification programs.

Currently, hospital staff covers those areas, Grimes said.

A paid association administrative planner is necessary to be an advocate for the association, said Grimes.

The job would be funded by grant monies set aside by the association, he said.
