Council expected to extend Suns lease

November 18, 1998

Hagerstown City Council members are expected to approve a lease extension next Tuesday for the Hagerstown Suns to use Municipal Stadium in 1999.

In a Nov. 10 letter, Suns owner Winston Blenckstone said he wants to renew the lease through the 1999 season.

Blenckstone announced in April his intention to keep the Class A minor league baseball team in Hagerstown through next season.

Hagerstown and Washington County elected officials will receive the results of a feasibility study for a stadium on Dec. 15, City Administrator Bruce Zimmerman said.

Blenckstone has been lobbying for a new stadium along Interstate 81 to improve attendance for the team, which is affiliated with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The current lease for the stadium along East Memorial Boulevard expires Dec. 31.
