Monday's roundup - Former HJC star Musse reaches NCAA nationals

Mohamed Musse, who twice earned All-American honors at Hagerstown Junior College, qualified Saturday for the NCAA Division I cross country championship as a member of the Eastern Kentucky team.

Musse, who fled Somalia and became an American citizen in 1996, earned a full scholarship at Eastern Kentucky. He placed eighth in the NCAA Southeast Regional meet in Furman, S.C., clocking 30 minutes, 21 seconds for 10,000 meters.


Washington Co. Junior Football League

The County edged the City 7-0 on Sunday in the third and fourth grade graduation game. Marcus Scott scored on a 19-yard touchdown run and Vaughn Zimmerman ran in the extra point for the County.

Hagerstown Youth Hockey

Mite Division

Jeter Paving Sharks 2, Pioneer Hook & Ladder Flames 0: Zachary Sandonato scored two goals for the Sharks. Goalie Andy Baker had a shutout.


Squirt Division

Potomac Rehab Center Mighty Ducks 7, Wheat First Union Stars 2: David Chakola led the Ducks with four goals.

Pee Wee/Bantam Division

Potomac Ridge Flyers 3, Maryland Paper Bruins 2: Owen Lietuvnikas led the Flyers with two goals.

Hagerstown Rotary Club Rangers 5, Waynesboro Blackhawks 1: Brandon Ziska scored two goals for the Rangers. Marcus Alfonso led the Rangers with two goals.

Waynesboro Canadiens 4, H.B. Mellott Estates Red Wings 3: Evan Negley led the Canadiens with three goals. The Red Wings' Jeff Minnichbach scored two goals.

Midget Division

Laurel Highland High School Hockey League

Hagerstown Play-It-Again-Sports/St. Lawrence Cement Penguins 6, Conamaugh Township, Pa. 0: Chris Said scored three goals for the Penguins. Goalie Justin Fischbach had a shutout.
