The Neumanns

Mr. and Mrs. Myrdon T. Neumann of Smithsburg celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, renewing their wedding vows during the 10:15 a.m. service at St. John's Episcopal Church in Hagerstown.

A reception in the Parish Hall following the service was hosted by their sons and spouses, Bruce C. and Becki Neumann and Cindy and M. Travis Neumann Jr., as well as the Parish Life Commission.

The Neumanns were married Sept. 11, 1948, in Fairchild Chapel of Oberlin Theological Seminary in Oberlin, Ohio, by Dean of Men Edward F. Bosworth.

Mrs. Neumann, the former Barbara Tanner of Oberlin, was a WAVE for three years between studying at Bowling Green State University and University of Maryland. She taught school in Germany and at Cascade School, where she still volunteers.

Mr. Neumann, from Watchung, N.J., served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, graduated from University of Maryland, then returned to the U.S. Air Force, retiring as major after 20 more years. He was a teacher at North Potomac and Northern middle schools and is a volunteer in local elementary schools.

They have six grandchildren.

The Weavers

Charles and Fern Weaver of Maugans Avenue in Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, at a dinner at Red Horse Steak House hosted by their son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sue Weaver, and granddaughter Jennifer Weaver.

The Weavers were married Oct. 6, 1948, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Edward P. Heinze.

Mrs. Weaver is the former Fern Harnish. She worked at Fairchild Industries and C.M. Offray Co.

Mr. Weaver worked at Fairchild Industries and is retired from Mack Trucks Inc.

The Mirras

Mr. and Mrs. Frederick A. Mirra of Clear Spring celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at a surprise party at Wilson Ruritan west of Hagerstown. The party was hosted by their daughter, Aimee Mirra, and son, Tony Mirra, and was attended by 80 of their family and friends.

The Mirras were married Oct. 13, 1973, at Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Williamsport by the Rev. William Zimmerman.

Mrs. Mirra is the former Ruth Ann Harsh, daughter of Mrs. Violet Harsh and the late George Harsh. She is a nurse at Washington County Hospital and Robinwood Surgery Center.

Mr. Mirra is the son of Clara Mirra and the late Anthony F. Mirra. He is employed as a regional maintenance engineer at Maryland Correctional Institution.

The Horsts

Abram and Waneta Horst of Inwood, W.Va., celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at Four Points Hotel with their children. Joining them were Samuel Horst Jr., brother of Abram, and his wife Arlene, both of Hagerstown.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Horst were employed in the school system at Inwood and Bunker Hill, W.Va. Mr. Horst works part-time at Wal-Mart in Martinsburg, W.Va.

The Horsts have 11 children, 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
