Wednesday's roundup - Hubs grab share of MVAL title

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Erica Dattilio had six kills and 11 assists to lead North Hagerstown to a 15-10, 15-2, 15-3 sweep of Middletown and a share of the Monocacy Valley Athletic League title Wednesday.

Nicole Morgan had 10 service points and 17 assists and Ashley Olszeski had 11 kills for the Hubs (12-2, 7-1).

The Hubs shared the league championship with Williamsport and Smithsburg.

Luisa Lopez had four service points, three blocks and three digs for Middletown (6-6, 2-6). Tricia Buhrman had three service points and four digs and Amy Estes had four digs and two kills.


Mercersburg 2, Flint Hill 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Garth Semple and Matt Danzinger scored second-half goals to lead the Blue Storm in the first round of the Mid Atlantic Conference tournament.


Isaac Brody and Ben Landon each had an assist for Mercersburg (8-7-2). Andrew Danzinger recorded the shutout, making four saves.

McConnellsburg 2, Conemaugh Township 1

BEDFORD, Pa. - Todd Earley scored the go-ahead goal 15 minutes into the second half to lead McConnellsburg to a victory in the Pennsylvania Class A District 5 semifinals.

The Spartans advance to the district finals against Rockwood on Saturday in Bedford.

Zach Dunkle gave McConnellsburg a 1-0 lead at the intermission with a goal off an Earley assist with 18 seconds remaining in the half.

Conemaugh Township tied the match at the 10-minute mark of the second half, five minutes before Earley scored on Nathan Horton's assist.

McConnellsburg outshot Conemaugh Township 13-6 as Spartan goalie Eric Kerlin made four saves.


St. James 2, Bullis 0

POTOMAC, Md. - Mariah Reid and Allison Funkhouser scored goals to lead St. James over Bullis in its final game of the season.

Carmen Chan had an assist for the Saints (5-7-2).


Washington County Junior Football

Williamsport Bears 50, Hagerstown Redskins 20: Jamel Smith scored five touchdowns to lead the Bears over the Redskins. Smith scored on runs of 45, 25, 34 and 47 yards and returned an interception 42 yards for another score. Jimmy Sutch, Sean Nuice and Aaron Buckman also scored for the Bears. Darail Porter had touchdown runs of 30 and 60 yards, and Mike Cline had a 17-yard touchdown run for the Redskins.

Hagerstown Browns 34, Hagerstown Packers 13: A.J. Bandess had touchdown runs of 3 and 15 yards to lead the Browns. Tyler Hoffman (3 yards), Justin Leggett (57 yards) and Alonzo Showe (10 yards) all had touchdown runs for the winners. Will Jones had a 16-yard touchdown run and caught a 57-yard touchdown pass from Bryan Slater for the Packers.

Smithsburg Jets 52, Hagerstown Dolphins 19: Nathan Himes had touchdown runs of 5, 2 and 16 yards as the Jets routed the Dolphins. Corey Brown scored two touchdowns and Dustin Sier and Sean Hunt each had one for the Jets. Quintez McDonald scored on runs of 74 and 68 yards, and Robbie Thompson had a 10-yard touchdown for the Dolphins.

Williamsport Vikings 28, Smithsburg Patriots 20: Bud House had a pair of touchdowns to lead the Vikings over the Patriots. Patrick Young and Josh Foley each scored a touchdown for the winners. David Gouff had two touchdowns and Travis Bloom had one for the Patriots.

3rd-4th Grade Division

Hagerstown Eagles 7, Hagerstown Chiefs 6: Stephan McDaniel had a 57-yard touchdown run and Adam Jenkins scored the conversion run to lift the Eagles over the Chiefs. Kevin Breslin scored on a 30-yard run for the Chiefs.

Williamsport Ravens 19, Smithsburg Jaguars 0: Marcus Scott 20-yard run and a 62-yard interception return for a touchdown to lead the Ravens. Cullen Hemphill had a 14-yard touchdown run for the winners.
