Genevieve P. Mummert

BIG POOL - Genevieve Pearl Mummert, 79, of 11005 Big Pool Road, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at Florida Hospital-Waterman in Eustis, Fla.

Born Jan. 8, 1919, in Big Pool, she was the daughter of the late John Luther and Daisy Dean Zimmerman Gerhart.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Guy Wilson Mummert; one daughter, Hilda Y. Clugston of Hagerstown; one son, G. Phillip Mummert of Big Pool; six sisters, Laura M. Whitmer and Hilda Draper, both of Hagerstown, Ruth Funkhouser and Catherine Gourley, both of Waynesboro, Pa., Evelyn Stolz of St. Louis, Mo., and Helen P. Manious of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Wanda M. Baker; and three sisters, Nellie Eyler, Blanche Anders and Ruby Frush.

Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. David B. Kaplan will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

William H. Simmers

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - William Hase Simmers, 81, of 102 S. Potomac St., and formerly of 122 E. Fifth St., died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Oct. 1, 1917, in Mont Alto, Pa., he was the son of the late Clinton Simmers and Bertha Kauffman Simmers Robertson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle E. Haugh Simmers.

He attended Quincy, Pa., schools.

He retired in 1982 from Landis Machine Co. in Waynesboro after 30 years in the heat treating department.

He was a member of Waynesboro Bible Church and the Men's Bible Class.

He is survived by two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margarite Prosser; and one brother, Raymond L. Simmers.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Robert Fitz will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Friday morning 30 minutes before the service at the funeral home.

 

Anna Marie Walls

RIDGELAND, S.C. - Anna Marie Wilcox Walls, 73, of Ridgeland, and formerly of Smithsburg and Hagerstown, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at Beaufort (S.C.) Memorial Hospital.

Born in Westerly, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Russell and Blanche T. Holtzman Turner.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard E. Wilcox, in 1976, and by her second husband, Virgil Walls, in 1989.

She retired from Doubleday Co. in Smithsburg.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Judith T. Kelly of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Michelle D. Shindledecker of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; two sons, Raymond Wilcox of Ridgeland and Richard B. Wilcox of Hagerstown; two sisters, Catherine Loraine Kimble of Hagerstown and Ruby Joanne Farley of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three brothers, James O. Holtzman of Sharpsburg and William E. Holtzman and Gary Wayne Holtzman, both of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.

Goldie E. Ferry

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Goldie E. Ferry, 85, of 7439 Browns Mill Road, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at her home.

Born Feb. 17, 1913, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Fred K. and Carrie E. Summers Sellers.

Her husband, Emory W. Ferry, died in 1954.

She attended Greencastle High School.

She retired after 41 years from the Stanley Co. in Chambersburg.

She was a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ in Marion, Pa.

She helped Kauffman Ruritan Club prepare food for banquets at Kauffman Community Center.

She is survived by one son, Fred W. Ferry of Chambersburg; two sisters, Margaret Cump of Greencastle, and Elva Anderson of Greencastle; one brother, Alvin O. Sellers of Greencastle; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Kuhn and Olive Jones; and two brothers, Earl Sellers and Dwight Sellers.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. John A. Toms will officiate. Burial will be in Browns Mill Cemetery in Kauffman Station, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the building fund of Heidelberg United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 381, Marion, PA 17235.
