HANCOCK - Two people were injured when their car struck a tree on Maple Ridge Road, Saturday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's Deputies said Christopher L. Shoemaker, 21 of Needmore was traveling south on Maple Ridge Road when he lost control of his 1992 Ford Mustang and struck a tree.

Shoemaker broke his leg in the accident and was taken to the Washington County Hospital for treatment.

His female passenger received minor injuries and was treated and released.

Shoemaker was charged with negligent driving.




A Hagerstown man faces numerous charges after purposefully ramming his car into another on U.S. 40 west of Md. 63 Saturday.

Todd Anthony Bryan, 23 of 13629 Little Antietam Rd., was charged with three counts of assault in the first degree, three counts of assault in the second degree, driving while intoxicated, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving and failure to drive right of center.

The incident took place at 1:35 p.m.

Washington County deputies said an investigation showed that Bryan was driving a 1984 Nissan truck closely behind a 1988 Tracer driven by Samuel Northrup, 38 of National Pike, Hagerstown.

Northrup was accompanied by two passengers, Laurie Northrup, 24, National Pike and Kenneth Cline Jr., 29 of National Pike.

The officers learned from witnesses that the truck passed the car on the shoulder and swerved in front of the vehicle.

Witnesses said the operator of the truck then drove parallel to the Tracer and rammed the driver's side causing the accident.

An off-duty Hagerstown Police officer arrived at the scene first and broke up a fight.
