2 hurt in wreck

FREDERICK, Md. - A Frederick County Sheriff's deputy and a Union Bridge, Md., motorist were injured Monday evening in an accident at the intersection of Md. 144 and Md. 75, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Rich Rochford was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released shortly after the 9:45 p.m. accident, deputies said.

John Green Jr., 56, of Union Bridge, was in critical condition in the hospital intensive care unit Tuesday evening, hospital officials said.

Rochford was eastbound on Md. 144 approaching the intersection as he responded to a 911 call, using his lights and siren, according to deputies.

Encountering a red light, Rochford slowed and proceeded through the intersection, where he collided with Green's northbound vehicle, deputies said.

Green's car ended up on a concrete median and the cruiser was in the northbound lane of Md. 75, deputies said.

 

Two charged with drug offenses

FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick Police City Tactical Unit on Tuesday arrested two men who were indicted on drug charges by a Frederick County, Md., grand jury.

The two, who were indicted by a grand jury, were arrested on West 6th Street at Klinehart's Alley, Frederick Police said.

Antowan Lovelace, 26, of Pennsylvania Avenue, Frederick, was charged with two counts of distribution of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine, conspiracy to distribute cocaine, conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute and conspiracy to possess cocaine.

He was jailed on $150,000 bond.

Carlos Antonio Payne, 20 of Marlowe Heights, Md., was charged with distribution of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine, conspiracy to distribute cocaine, conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to possess cocaine.

He was awaiting a bond hearing, police said.
