Earl J. Walters

Earl J. Walters, 62, of 59 Charles St., Hagerstown, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 16, 1936, in Frostburg, Md., he was the son of the late Albert and Emma Broadwater Walters.

He retired in 1989 from Western Maryland Hospital Center, Hagerstown. He had previously worked at Mount Wilson Hospital in Baltimore.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma R. McCann Walters.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. will officiate.

George W. Walker

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - George W. Walker, of McConnellsburg, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998.

Born in Demopolis, Ala., he was the son of Rotha B. and Edna Ricketts Walker.

He was in law enforcement all of his life. He retired from the City of Compton, Calif., and also from the City of Alexandria, Va.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served for four years.

He was a deacon and elder of Untied Presbyterian Church in McConnellsburg.

He was a member of American Legion Post 561.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Walker; two daughters, Virginia Lee Walker and Sharon Moss, both of California; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1500 N. Second St., Harrisburg, Pa. 17102; or Memorial Fund of the United Presbyterian Church, 116 S. Second St., McConnellsburg, Pa. 17233.

Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg.

David R. Vitko

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - David R. Vitko, 51, of RD 1, Box 499 C, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa.

Born May 13, 1947, in Johnstown, Pa., he was the son of Steve Vitko of Berlin, Pa., and the late Kathleen Jackson Vitko.

He was employed as a park ranger by Caledonia State Park.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served with the U.S. Navy.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Carol Treby Vitko, whom he married on Feb. 23, 1990; three daughters, Dawn Vitko, Heather Vitko and Crystal Vitko, all of Hagerstown; and three sons, David Vitko Jr. of Hagerstown, Shane Vitko and Brian Vitko, both of McConnellsburg.

Services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Christian Elliott will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service Thursday.

John R. Mast III

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - John Raymond "J.R." Mast III, 22, of Hedgesville, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, as the result of an automobile accident.

Born Nov. 27, 1975, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of John R. Mast II of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Judith Taylor McFadden of Hedgesville.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Jeannette Elizabeth Mast of Hedgesville; one half-brother, Shawn P. McFadden of Hedgesville; maternal grandparents, Franklyn D. Taylor of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Shirley E. Wheeler of Hedgesville; and paternal grandparents, John and Ida Mast of Martinsburg, W.Va.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Helen E. Miles

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Helen Estelle Miles, 90, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born May 1, 1908, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Frank C. and Lula Weiskettle Miles.

She was formerly employed by F.S. Emmerts and Sons.

She was a member of Christ Reformed Church, United Church of Christ, for 75 years.

She is survived by one sister, Ruth C. Miles of Martinsburg; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Madeline Miles; and two brothers, Ralph A. Miles and Albert W. Miles.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Thomas E. Hartshorn will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Christ Reformed Church, 117 E. Burke St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Lester K. Fiery

CLEAR SPRING - Lester Kemerer Fiery, 80, of 14603 Fairview Church Road, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at his home.

Born June 14, 1918, in Fairview, he was the son of the late Samuel Luther Fiery Jr. and Eva Zuella Kemerer Fiery.

He was owner and operator of Fierydale Farm, where he farmed all of his life.

He was a member of Salem Reformed Church, where he served as an elder and consistory member.

He was a former member of Wilson Ruritan Club and Washington County Farm Bureau.
