Local Roundup: Rams' Beane gets another record

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Shepherd's Damian Beane became the school all-time leading scorer with three touchdowns, and the Rams won their fifth straight game of the year Thursday night, a 54-7 victory over WVU-Tech in the Pigskin in a Poke Classic at Laidley Field.

The Rams (5-1, 3-0 West Virginia Conference) moved out to a 33-7 halftime lead behind three touchdowns from Beane. The junior scored on runs of three, 18 and eight yards to move past Bill Adams (260) on the scoring list.

He also reached the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season and the 4,000-yard career mark. He is only the fourth player in WVIAC history to reach 4,000 yards.

Beane finished the night with 226 yards on 24 carries, giving him 10 200-yard games in his career.

Goretti 3, Musselman 2

INWOOD, W.Va. - Mike Aziz and Chad Brashears scored fourth-quarter goals to spark No. 4 St. Maria Goretti over Musselman.

Mussleman's Joel Kennard opened the scoring in the first quarter. His goal was equaled in the second by Aziz's first of two scores for Goretti (7-3-3).

Eric Fialkowski scored in the third quarter to give Musselman a 2-1 lead.

Middletown 5, South 1

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Johnathan Meleney scored two goals and Joey Beard added two assists as No. 2 Middletown broke a 1-1 halftime tie with four second-half goals.

Brad Conn, Steve Roessler and Ray Wilson each scored goals for Middletown (9-1). Doug Boyle and Bryan Axline added assists.

Jason Dixon scored off John Vauwchak's assist for South Hagerstown (1-7-2).

Gettysburg 2, Chambersburg 0

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Jason O'Day and Marty Jolin each scored goals to lift Gettysburg to an upset of No. 1 Chambersburg.

Evan Wells assisted the goal by O'Day for Gettysburg (8-7). Goaltender Ben Smith had seven saves in the shutout.

Pat Munson had nine saves in the loss for Chambersburg (14-3, 13-3).

Greencastle 2, Camp Hill 2

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Daniel O'Kilj scored Greencastle's goals on a penalty kick and a 30-yard free kick in a tie against Camp Hill.

Scott Bayne scored on a penalty kick and Matt Fox added a score for Camp Hill (10-4-1, 6-1).

Greencastle's record is 9-5-1 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

McConnellsburg 5, Chestnut Ridge 1

MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Jeremy Reed scored two goals and Todd Early had two assists, leading No. 8 McConnellsburg to the victory.

Joe Deschong had a goal and an assist for McConnellsburg (14-1-1). Nick Wolff and Chris Crouch both added goals.

Juan Bortollotti scored for Chestnut Ridge.

Highland View 5, SJPH 0

Clayton Jackson had two goals and an assist as Highland View got all its goals in the first half.

Herman Bernhardt, Eduardo Bollata and Peter Byrd also scored for the Tartans.

Smithsburg 6, Walkersville 1

SMITHSBURG - Kyley Thompson had two goals and two assists, and Andrea Henson and Alyson Daughtridge both added a goal and an assist to help No. 8 Smithsburg break a 1-1 halftime tie and upset of No. 6 Walkersville.

Heather Jenkins and Lisa Holsinger each added goals for Smithsburg (8-4). Morgan Church had an assist.

South Hagerstown 3, Boonsboro 2

Mallory Tsetsilas scored all three goals on assists from Emily Middlekauff to lead South Hagerstown (3-8, 3-4).

Lisa Byers and Ashley Gossert scored for Boonsboro (4-7-1, 2-6). Krista Hurley had an assist.

Martinsburg 2, Hedgesville 0

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Sara Miller scored No. 9 Martinsburg's first goal on an assist from Jessica Barnes en route to the victory.

Sam Polinik scored the insurance goal on a penalty kick. Kristen Lowe recorded the shutout.

Clear Spring 3, Boonsboro 2

CLEAR SPRING - Holly Aleshire served nine aces and added eight kills, while Suzy Ernst served six aces and added seven kills, leading Clear Spring to its first win of the season, 15-5, 15-10, 12-15, 14-16, 15-5.

Tara Myers had four aces and Mandy Englehart added eight kills for Clear Spring (1-8).

Jefferson 3, Goretti 1

Julie Sanicola served up seven aces, but couldn't serve out a win for Goretti as the Gaels fell to Jefferson, 15-13, 15-10, 3-15, 15-11.

Mandy Hoffman had eight kills and Jennifer Piccolomini added seven kills for Goretti (8-7).

Highland View 3, SJPH 1

Christy Latta recorded 13 service points, including six aces, to lead Highland View Academy to a 4-15, 15-10, 15-5, 15-12 victory over St. Johns at Prospect Hall.

Thais Santos added four kills for HVA (11-5).

McConnellsburg 2, Hyndman 0

MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Erin Peck had 15 service points and 10 assists to lead No. 1 McConnellsburg to a 15-13, 15-4 win.

Tiffany Sipes had 14 assists for McConnellsburg (14-0). Lindsay Miller had eight kills and six blocks, and Lory Baker added eight kills.
