MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Jonathan Meleney scored the game-winning goal with 35 seconds left, leading No. 2 Middletown past No. 9 Smithsburg 2-1 Wednesday in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League match..

Ryan Daughtridge opened the scoring in the 14th minute of the first half for Smithsburg (6-3-2, 3-2-1).

Middletown (8-1, 6-0) answered on Brian Bradae's penalty kick with 10 seconds left in the half.

Jason Cherish recorded five saves, preserving the win for Middletown. Smithsburg's Ryan Bergstrom had eight saves.

Boonsboro 4, Catoctin 1

BOONSBORO - Chris Rhoderick, Aaron Rohrer, Josh Kretzer and Jake Michael each scored a goal and Sam Lind made five saves to lead Boonsboro (3-5-2, 2-3-1).

Rob Clontz scored the lone goal for Catoctin (1-9, 0-5).

Boonsboro won the JV match, 2-0.

Maret 5, St. James 2

WASHINGTON - Peter Korbel scored twice and Chris Dolly, Ari Gejdenson and Hashim Hussein each added one goal to lead Maret over St. James.

Jamie Holzapfel and Kyu-ho Kim scored the goals for St. James (5-4-1). Steve Bumby and Ryan Wingerd each added an assist.

Potomac 1, Mercersburg 0

POTOMAC, Md. - Potomac scored the winning goal on a penalty kick with two minutes left to play as they defeated No. 10 Mercersburg Academy.

Goaltender Andy Danziger had six saves for Mercersburg (6-2-2). Mercersburg outshot Potomac, 9-8.

CLEAR SPRING - Jennifer Russell scored twice to lead No. 4 Jefferson to the victory.

Roberta Johnson and Erin Bradley also scored for Jefferson (10-1-1). Melissa McIlroy recorded the shutout in goal.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Shelane Jorgenson had 13 points, including two aces, to lead No. 8 Mercersburg Academy to a 15-10, 15-3, 15-4 victory.

Angie Cornelius had nine kills and Lauren Bolte added six kills for Mercersburg (7-2).

Wil McKeachie's 42 at Beaver Creek led the Saints to a tri-match victory.

Josh Spreng was the match medalist with a 38 for the Gaels, while Jessica Lewis shot 44 to lead St. Andrews.

Washington Co. Junior League

Hagerstown Redskins 35, Hagerstown Packers 19: Darail Porter ran for 240 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Redskins. Bryan Slater scored on runs of 33 and 36 yards and Will Jones had an 11-yard touchdown run for the Packers.

Hagerstown Steelers 19, Hagerstown Dolphins 18: Brandon Monroe scored two touchdowns and the game-winning extra point to lead the Steelers. Monroe scored on a 59-yard run and a 70-yard pass from Michael Campbell. Quielan Gantt also scored on a 40-yard run for the Steelers. Steve Fravel and Quintez McDonald each scored on 2-yard runs and Bobby Waugh caught a 60-yard pass from Kyle Robinson for the Dolphins.

Williamsport Vikings 29, Hagerstown Giants 7: Brian Spickler threw touchdown passes to Josh Foley and Corey Leggett to lead the Vikings. Patrick Young had a 50-yard touchdown run and Aerik Peeler scored from 5 yards out, while Buck Hilliard had two 2-point kicks for the Vikings. Neil Forsythe scored on a 60-yard run for the Giants.

3rd-4th Grade Division

Williamsport Ravens 18, Smithsburg Jaguars 6: Marcus Scott had three touchdowns and over 150 yards rushing to lead the Ravens. Anthony Lee had a 35-yard touchdown run for the Jaguars.

Hagerstown Chiefs 7, Hagerstown Eagles 0: Vernon Valentine had a 39-yard touchdown run and Chad Bikle added the conversion run for the Chiefs.
