Monday's roundup: HCC women sweep two matches

McHENRY, Md. - Hagerstown Community College won a tri-match on Monday, sweeping Garrett 15-9, 15-10,15-3 and by defeating CCAC-South Pittsburgh 15-5, 5-15, 15-7.

Tera Martin led HCC (19-9 overall, 10-1 Maryland JuCo Conference) with 45 assists and 25 service points. Molly Schoenberg had 14 kills and three blocks, while Natalie Linn added 13 kills and four blocks. Andrea Nelson had eight kills.


Broadfording 3, Martinsburg Christian 0

Bianca Holt had 14 service points, including six aces, to lead Broadfording Christian Academy to a 15-10, 15-4 and 15-12 victory over Martinsburg Christian. Ashley Mason had five kills for Broadfording (6-5).

N. Hagerstown 3, Francis Scott Key 2

Nicole Morgan and Michelle Grove went 25-for-25 from the service line to lead North Hagerstown to a 14-16, 15-7, 15-12, 12-15, 15-6 victory over Francis Scott Key.


Morgan also had 24 assists, 13 kills and 13 service points, while Grove added 20 digs and 15 service points. Erica Dattilio had 20 kills and 20 assists, while Ashley Olszeski made eight blocks for North Hagerstown.

Carrie Weant scored 26 assists, while Kim Sheedy and Steph Robertson had 11 kills each for Francis Scott Key.


Chambersburg 3, Shippensburg 0

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Goalkeeper Pat Munson recorded another save to set a school record with 8 1/2 shutouts in a season to help Chambersburg blank Shippensburg.

Nate Richards finished with one goal and two assists for Chambersburg (13-2, 12-2 Mid-Penn Commonwealth). Brody O'Farrell added one goal and one assist, while Dustin Martin had one goal for Chambersburg.

Smithsburg 5, South Hagerstown 1

SMITHSBURG - Ryan Daughtridge scored two goals to help Smithsburg beat South Hagerstown.

Both Dustin Crilly and Steve Munson finished with one goal and one assist each for Smithsburg (6-2-2). Matt Seifarth added one goal, while Brian Eichelberger had one assist for Smithsburg. Smithsburg goalkeeper Ryan Bergstrom made eight saves.

Chris Mills scored the only goal for South Hagerstown. Smithsburg outshot South Hagerstown, 26-14.


Middletown 2, Boonsboro 0

BOONSBORO - Anne Rieser scored two goals to help Middletown edge Boonsboro.

Krista Sheffler had both assists for Middletown (10-0). Boonsboro goalkeeper Cara Peckens made nine saves (4-6-1).

St. Maria Goretti 4, Martinsburg 3

MARTINSBURG, W. Va. - Erin Ryan scored three goals for St. Maria Goretti (10-4-2, 4-1-1 Apple Valley League).

Allison Palank added one goal and two assists, while Erin Costello had two assists for St. Maria Goretti. Goalkeeper Lauren Costello made four saves.

Kate Bonifant, Katie Messner and Sarah Polinik had one goal apiece for Martinsburg. Martinsburg goalkeeper Kristen Lough made 10 saves.

St. Maria Goretti outshot Martinsburg, 16-9.

N, Hagerstown 6, Francis Scott Key 0

Lindsey Smith scored three goals and Meagan Verdeyen added two goals to help North Hagerstown (8-2-1).

Nikki Holman added one goal and one assist, while goalkeeper Erin Ross made 15 saves for North Hagerstown.

North Hagerstown also won the JV game, 4-0.

Smithsburg 3, Brunswick 0

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Kyley Thompson, Lisa Holsinger and Allison Daughtridge 1 goal apiece to help Smithsburg (7-4) get past Brunswick. Thompson also added an assist.

Smithsburg also won the JV game, 2-0.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Four girls from Chambersburg (Amy Drawbaugh, Kelly Baker, Lindsay Ausherman and Beth Armstrong) finished in a tie for first place with a time of 21:13 as Chambersburg placed in all of the top nine spots in the girls race.

Chambersburg's Ed Schlichter (16:26) edged Pat Baumgardner of Gettysburg (16:29) to win the boys race as Chambersburg took five of the top eight spots.

South End Tavern 18-15, J&W Mcchanical 8-11: Darren Stotelmyer slugged three home runs for South End Tavern. Todd Ricker and Billy Thompson added one home run each for South End Tavern.
