WILLIAMSPORT - Matt Bowman scored two second-half goals, and Carlos Gomez had a goal and two assists as No. 8 Williamsport beat Walkersville 4-0 in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League match Thursday.

Matt Deener scored the other goal for the Wildcats (7-2, 4-1). Matt Porac added an assist.

Goalkeeper Josh Miller had 12 saves to notch the shutout.

Walkersville falls to 2-6-1, 1-4-1 in the league.

Catoctin 4, Boonsboro 0

BOONSBORO - Mary Coulby scored two goals and Helly Hinchcliffe had two assists as No. 10 Catoctin shut out Boonsboro on Wednesday.

Amber Loverock and Ginny Voigt scored the other goals for Catoctin. Leann Adams added an assist, and Ginny Rowley had 11 saves to record the shutout.

Cara Peckens had five saves for Boonsboro (4-5-1). Catoctin won the JV match, 9-3.

Mercersburg 3, Grace Academy 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Angie Cornelius had 12 points and 10 kills, leading Mercersburg Academy to a 15-11, 17-15, 15-9 victory over No. 8 Grace.

Lauren Bolte had nine kills, seven blocks and three aces for Mercersburg (6-2). Sarah Nusairat added seven kills and seven blocks.

Williamsport 3, Boonsboro 0

BOONSBORO - Williamsport (7-1) defeated Boonsboro 15-2, 15-10, 15-6.

Stephanie Strite had 11 assists, five blocks and four kills to lead Boonsboro (5-4). Jade Whipp added six kills, five blocks and nine digs.

Hedgesville 3, Frankfort 2

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Hedgesville won 15-9, 13-15, 15-9, 5-15, 15-13 to improve to 11-5 overall.

FSK 3, Middletown 0

UNION BRIDGE, Md. - Allison Johnson had four blocks and two kills as Middletown lost to Francis Scott Key, 15-3, 15-3, 15-9.

Becky O'Leary added two blocks and two digs for Middletown (4-4, 2-4).

McConnellsburg 2, Southern Fulton 0

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Erin Peck had 16 points, four aces and seven assists in a 15-1, 15-1 win for No. 2 McConnellsburg.

Tiffany Sipes had seven assists and four blocks for McConnellsburg (11-0). Charla Gordon had five service points and Lory Baker had five kills.

Catoctin 3, Walkersville 1

THURMONT, Md. - Sarah Yocum had 12 points to lead Catoctin to its first win of the season, 8-15, 15-13, 15-10, 15-2.

Nicole Abbott and Leanne Manning each added six aces for Catoctin (1-7).

Carrier wins CAC soccer honors

St. Mary's College (Md.) freshman Laura Carrier has been named the Capital Athletic Conference's women's soccer player of the week for the week ending Oct. 4.

Carrier made eight saves in 171 minutes to record consecutive shutouts over Dickinson College and Salisbury. The shutouts moved St. Mary's to No. 9 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Mid-Atlantic Region poll.

Carrier graduated from Williamsport High School in 1998, earning All-County and All-MVAL selections as a goalkeeper. Her .854 save percentage and 0.97 goals against average both rank third in the CAC.

Schmidt named Player of the Week

PRINCETON, W.Va. - Senior All-America candidate Amanda Schmidt of Shepherd was recently selected as the WVIAC Player of the Week in volleyball for the second time this season.

During the week, Schmidt led the Rams to a 4-2 record. She had 80 kills, 61 digs and five aces to go along with a .396 attack percentage. Schmidt leads the league with a 4.8 kills per game average.

The Rams are 15-3 overall and 5-1 in the WVIAC.
