Daniel S. Pluta

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Daniel S. Pluta, 58, of McConnellsburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.

Born Aug. 26, 1940, in Gibbons Glade, Md., he was the son of Joseph Pluto of Farmington, Pa., and the late Virginia Carley Pluto.

He was a truck driver for Roadway Express, retiring in August 1997.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1975.

He was a member of McConnellsburg American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy L. Ficks Pluta, whom he married in 1962; four daughters, Lisa Lamar of San Diego, Angela Shoemaker of Mercersburg, Pa., Patricia Kabler and Brenda Deshong, both of Greencastle, Pa.; a son, Daniel Pluta II of Harrisonville, Pa.; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg. Lee Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Harrisonville.

The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ollie P. Smith

Ollie Pearl Smith, 80, of 417 Freemont St., died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 26, 1917, in McGaheysville, Va., she was the daughter of the late William H. and Amanda Jane Life Bush.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Smith, in 1985.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

She was a member of AARP.

She is survived by five daughters, Virginia Davis of Williamsport, and Catherine Smith, Patricia Nalley, Mary Miller and Rose Smith, all of Hagerstown; three sons, Charles Smith, Carl Smith and Richard Smith, all of Hagerstown; one sister, Stella Valentine of Boonsboro; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Stevens; and two brothers, Charlie Bush and Mart Bush.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North in Hagerstown. The Rev. Darryl C. Zoller will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The viewing will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

Shirley A. Edwards

BIG COVE TANNERY, Pa. - Shirley A. Edwards, 63, of Big Cove Tannery, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born July 14, 1935, in Cito, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Coyle and Lucinda Alexander Buterbaugh.

She worked as a seamstress at Sagner, McConnellsburg and Waynesboro Knit, Waynesboro, Pa.

She was a member of Laurel Ridge Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery.

She is survived by her husband, Harvey Edwards, whom she married in October 1965, two daughters, Tammy Sweger of Waterfall, Pa. and Wanda Edwards of Big Cove Tannery; two sisters, Catherine DeShong of McConnellsburg and Betty Carbaugh of Needmore, Pa.; five brothers, Jim Buterbaugh of Lancaster, Pa., Bud Buterbaugh of Harrisonville, Pa., Jack Buterbaugh of Knobsville, Pa., Scott Buterbaugh of McConnellsburg and Donald Buterbaugh of Needmore; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sipes Funeral Home Inc., Harrisonville. Pastor Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy L. Bowers

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Dorothy Louise Fishel Bowers, 72, a resident of Care Haven of Berkeley Nursing Home, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, at City Hospital.

She was born June 25, 1926, in Baltimore.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Edgar Bowers, in 1984.

She was a self-employed nurse.

She was a member of Trinity Christian Church of God.

She was a member of Womens Democratic Coalition; AARP; and a past member of Hagerstown Moose 212.

She is survived by seven grandchildren, Angela C. Argo of Hagerstown, Tammy R. Bryant, Paul J. Bryant, Amy M. Bryant, John P. Bryant and Lisa A. Bryant, all of York, Pa., and Kimberly Golden of Clear Spring; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Paul B. Bryant Sr. and Edward L. Rice; a son, Paul B. Bryant Jr.; and a daughter, Ruthie Miller.

There will be no viewing.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport.

Alice E. Davis

Alice Etta "Peach" Davis, 69, of Ravenwood Lutheran Village, and previously of 11 W. Baltimore St. and 334 S. Locust St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at Ravenwood.

Born July 28, 1929, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William Aloyshius and Nellie Viola Barncord Grove.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. "Tub" Davis Sr.

She was a former employee of Washington County Hospital, working in the recovery room.
