Monday's roundup: McConnellsburg sweeps to remain undefeated

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Erin Peck had 11 service points, three kills and 11 assists to spark second-ranked McConnellsburg over Tussey Mountain 15-7, 15-2 Monday night.

Lindsey Miller had six kills and four blocks, Rene Baker had five kills and Kyla Seville had six service points to raise McConnellsburg's record to 9-0.


South 3, Walkersville 0

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Kerri Belin had six assists, eight kills and four blocks to lead South Hagerstown to a 15-10, 15-13, 15-4 victory over Walkersville.

Janice Harp was 14-for-15 serving, good for 11 service points and seven assists for the Rebels (4-5) while Carrie Keller had 11 service points and Laura Wishard had 12 points and four kills. Keller and Wishard were both 12-for-14 from the service line. South enjoyed 100 percent serving in the first game.


Hancock 2, Southern Fulton 0

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Amanda Bingaman had 14 points and four kills to lead Hancock to a 15-10, 15-8 sweep of Southern Fulton.

Christi Barnard added two kills, seven assists and two blocks for the Panthers (5-2), while Rebecca Thomas scored 13 points, Erica Winn had three kills, Heidi Moats had two kills and Summer Beal had seven assists to help Hancock's balanced attack.

St. Maria Goretti 3, Clear Spring 2

CLEAR SPRING - Jennifer Piccolomini had 10 kills and six aces to lead St. Maria Goretti to a 7-15, 15-5, 15-0, 10-15, 15-8 win over Clear Spring.

Jaelithe Banks had 11 kills for the Gaels (8-5), while Juli Sanicola had nine kills and 11 assists and Hannah Chambers passed out 14 assists.

F. Scott Key 3, Catoctin 0

THURMONT, Md. - Sophomore Larin Canella scored seven service points but Catoctin was swept 15-5, 15-3, 15-3 by Francis Scott Key.

Kristi Lenhart had seven assists and Mandy Ryder had three blocks for the Cougars (0-6).


Boonsboro 4, Brunswick 1

BOONSBORO - Brad Palm scored two goals, and Aaron Rohrer and Nick Lingg scored one each to lead Boonsboro (2-4-1).

Colin L'Ecuyer scored for Brunswick.

Boonsboro's JV won, 4-2.

North Hagerstown 4, Smithsburg 1

North Hagerstown scored all four of its goals in the first period to beat Smithsburg in an MVAL soccer match.

John Muto began the run for North (7-2, 6-0), scoring the first two goals of the game. Later in the period on the Hubs' sixth shot on goal, Lane Drummond made it 3-0 with an assist from Michael Hudak, his second of the day.

Chris Michaels closed the scoring for North with two seconds left in the first half, getting an assist from Scott Keasey. Paul Toomey also had an assist.

North's goalkeeper Jon Hemm had seven saves. North outshot the Leopards, 14-9.

Smithsburg (5-2-2, 2-1-1) got on the scoreboard when Ryan Daughtridge scored off an assist from Gerard House. Ryan Bergstrom had six saves for the Leopards.

South Hagerstown 5, F. Scott Key 5

John Schnebly scored on a free kick in the final minutes of regulation to help South Hagerstown pull out a double-overtime tie with Francis Scott Key.

Chris Mills scored three goals for the Rebels (1-5-2) and John Veverchak scored one. South trailed 5-3 with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

Sean Todd scored three goals and Justin Robertson and Travis Shipley added a score each for the Eagles.

South outshot FSK, 22-18. Bobby Wilhide made 13 saves for the Rebels while Justin Thomas stopped 16 shots for the Eagles.


Boonsboro 5, Hedgesville 1

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Holly Pearson scored two goals and two assists to pace Boonsboro to a victory over Hedgesville.

Pearson scored the final goal of the first half off Stephanie Nicolosi's assist to give the Warriors (4-4-1) a 3-1 lead at the intermission. Pearson assisted on Lisa Byers's goal and Maggie Tierney scored on Erin Cullison's assist.

Pearson scored an unassisted goal after assisting on Nicolosi's score in the second half. Boonsboro outshot Hedgesville, 19-1.

Boonsboro's JV also won, 3-1.

Smithsburg 2, Clear Spring 0

SMITHSBURG - Allison Daughtridge scored both goals in Smithsburg's victory over Clear Spring.

Andrea Henson had an assist for Smithsburg (6-4.)

Kari Mowen had 30 saves for Clear Spring.

Williamsport 8, S. Hagerstown 0

WILLIAMSPORT - Stephanie Ritchie, Brooke Weimer and Skyler Sanders each scored twice for Williamsport.

Brooke Jolliffe and Kaci Resau added goals for Williamsport (6-0-1). Weimer had three assists, and Ritchie, Emily Shirk and Ashley van Norden each added one assist.

Niki Leisinger notched her fifth shutout in goal.


Musselman takes title

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.VA. - Led by low medalist Zach Boyd, who shot an 80, Musselman won the Potomac Valley Conference golf championship on Monday.

Aaron Mueller and Chris Burher shot 80s, and Jimmy Smith shot 104 to give Musselman a 360 total. Keyser, led by Joe Fairhall's 81, took second with 373.

Davey Kesner shot 91 to lead Berkeley Springs with 383.

Moorefield was four with 385 and was led by Nathan Bergdoll and Adam Sager, who shot 87s.

Ryan Phebus shot a 96 to lead Frankfort (400).
