Harold E. DeShong

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Harold E. "Bub" DeShong, 78, of McConnellsburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at his home.

Born Feb. 11, 1920, in Andover, Pa., he was the son of the late Ally E. and Ada Barton DeShong.

He was a farmer.

He was a member of Siloam United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, Pa., where he was a Sunday school treasurer and teacher; treasurer of Harrisonville parsonage; and a Gideon and trustee.

He was secretary of PFA; Green Hill school director; honorary life member of McConnellsburg Fire Co.; and a Fulton County National Bank director.


He is survived by his wife, Helen Hockensmith DeShong, whom he married on May 29, 1940; a daughter, Ann Morgan of Waynesboro, Pa.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a niece.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Siloam United Methodist Church, Harrisonville. Pastor Charles Gummo and Pastor Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Siloam United Methodist Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville; and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Franklin/Fulton American Heart Association, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Jacqueline L. Green

Jacqueline L. Green, 47, of Hagerstown, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 25, 1951, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Richard L. and Leona Rector Paige.

She was a secretary at Strawberry Mall in Harrisburg, Pa., and formerly was a nursing assistant at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Noreen J. Long and Angela N. Green, both of Hagerstown; three sons, Michael Rivera of New York, Carlos Rivera and Elijah Muhammad Ali Green, both of Martinsburg; 10 grandchildren; and a close friend, Noah L. Green Sr. of Martinsburg.

She was preceded in death by a son, Noah L. Green Jr.; two brothers, Gregory Rector and the Rev. Richard Paige; and an infant sister.

Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Janis A. Wright will officiate.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Petra Worship Center, 701 W. Burke St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Howard A. Taulton Sr.

RANSON, W.Va. - Howard Austin "Buddy" Taulton Sr., 60, of 318 E. 5th Ave., died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at his home.

Born Feb. 28, 1938, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of Pauline Himes Taulton of Yarrowsburg, Md., and the late Howard Samuel Taulton.

He was a retired carman from Amtrak at Union Station at Washington, D.C.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Brownsville (Md.) Church of the Brethren; He was active with Christian Holiness Church at Gapland, Md.

He was a member of Steadman-Keenan American Legion Post 96; and a former member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1582, both of Brunswick.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Paula Edwards of Charles Town, W.Va., and Michelle Metz of Keedysville; four sons, Howard Taulton Jr. of Yarrowsburg, Jeffrey Taulton, Darrell Taulton and Mark Taulton, all of Hagerstown; three sisters, Thomasine Germack of Frederick, Md., Joann Coulter of Yarrowsburg and Susie Ruffner of Boonsboro; 11 grandchildren; and his fiance, Beverly Higgins of Charles Town.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, Brownsville. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. and the Rev. James Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Brownsville Heights Cemetery, Brownsville Heights, Md.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. The funeral home will be open today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Charles W. Hart Jr.

Charles William "Sonny" Hart Jr., 57, of 331 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, who died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1965.

Carl W. Owen

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Carl W. Owen, 52, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 18, 1946, in Plainfield, N.J., he was the son of the late John English and Muriel Edwards Owen.

He was traffic manager for Jaynes Motor Freight, Elizabeth, N.J.

He is survived by two daughters, Gretchen Owen Sharp of Fallsington, Pa., and Karin Nicely of Fairless Hills, Pa.

Private graveside services will be at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke, Va.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
