I-70 improvements planned

September 28, 1998

The State Highway Administration will improve Interstate 70 from west of Little Conococheague Creek to east of Boyd Road in Clear Spring, beginning Sept. 28.

The project includes resurfacing three miles along east and westbound I-70, as well as making safety improvements, including the installation of raised pavement markers and modifying guardrails. Single-lane closures will occur along eastbound I-70, Monday through Saturday between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. and along westbound I-70, Monday through Thursday between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., and Friday through Sunday between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Shoulder closures also may occur in the area.

Signs, arrowboards, cones, drums and advance warning signs will guide motorists through the area. SHA awarded the $1.19 million contract to C. William Hetzer Inc. of Hagerstown. The project should be complete late next summer, weather permitting.
