City votes to buy land to expand parking lot

September 25, 1998

Hagerstown City Council members voted Tuesday night to buy land to expand the North Potomac Street parking lot.

The extra land eventually will provide space for 15 more parking spots, said Tim Young, a city engineer. The parking spaces won't be added until the city acquires more property, he said.

The council twice voted 4-0 to introduce separate legislation to buy two properties for parking in the northeast area of downtown, said City Clerk Gann Breichner.

Councilman William M. Breichner was absent.

The city will pay Todd A. Farmer and Margaret E. Bristow $12,204 for land behind 41 E. Franklin St. and will pay Brenda J. Thomas Bush and Laird A. Bush $12,204 for land behind 39 E. Franklin St., according to city documents.
