A Hagerstown teenager was hospitalized with head injuries after she was hit by a car while crossing the street in the 800 block of West Washington Street on Wednesday evening, Hagerstown City Police said.

Witnesses saw the 13-year-old girl begin to cross from the south side of the street to the north side and step into the path of a westbound vehicle at about 6:14 p.m., police said.

The girl was in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Washington County Hospital on Wednesday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police would not release the girl's name, nor that of the driver.

Sgt. Michael King said the driver was not at fault and no charges will be filed.
