Olympic Steel breaks ground

September 24, 1998

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Olympic Steel Inc. broke ground Wednesday in Chambersburg for a new facility to house a machine shop operation.

The company will relocate its newly acquired McConnellsburg machine shop operation to the new 87,000-square-foot facility. Additional plate-burning equipment will be installed to supplement the operation. Production at the facility is expected to begin during the second quarter of 1999.

"Outsourcing continues to be a significant trend in this industry. By establishing plate-burning and machining in one facility, we expect to fulfill the manufacturing demands of our customers in this area," said Michael D. Siegal, chairman and CEO, in a press release. "Our customers will be able to focus on their strengths of research, design, assembly and marketing, while we continue to accelerate our service capabilities and value opportunities."

Brechbill & Helman Construction Co. Inc. of Chambersburg is the general contractor.
