Bus, Camaro collide

September 22, 1998

No students were injured Tuesday morning when a Washington County school bus and two passenger cars were involved in an accident on Jefferson Boulevard near Pangborn Boulevard, according to Maryland State Police.

Bus driver Linda Marie Aleshire, 52, of 113232 Lakeside Drive, had just dropped off all of her students at Pangborn Elementary School, and was northbound on Pangborn after going through a green light, said Trooper 1st Class Doug Bird.

A Chevrolet Camaro driven by Kimberly Kay Banks, 31, of 10917 Crystal Falls Drive, was traveling on Jefferson Boulevard.

The Camaro went through a red light and hit the left side of the bus just in front of the rear wheels, causing the bus to spin, Bird said.

The bus spun into crossing guard Genevieve Clara Trolio's parked Geo Metro, he said.

Trolio, 63, of 18021 Lappans Road, Fairplay, had just gotten into her car, Bird said. The force of the impact drove the Geo up an embankment and the bus into a stone wall along Jefferson Boulevard, he said.

All drivers were treated at Washington County Hospital and released, Bird said.

Banks was charged with failure to stop for a red light, Bird said.

Chris Carter, transportation chief for Washington County Schools, said the bus will be out of service until it can be repaired. Another bus was used to complete Tuesday's runs.
