Frederick County (Md.) Public Schools will debut a new series called "PTA Perspective" today on cable Channel 18.

The topic airing at 7 p.m. today and on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through Oct. 9, will be "The Importance of Parent Involvement in a Child's Education."

Also, "What's Cooking in Frederick County Public Schools?" will air on "Inside Look" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays through Oct. 3.

Peer mediation/conflict manager training for Berkeley County (W.Va.) elementary schools will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. today and Tuesday, and Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23, at James Rumsey Technical Institute in Hedgesville, W.Va.

A public meeting to discuss a state police review board will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 411 S. Lawrence St., Charles Town, W.Va.

Del. Dale Manuel, D-Jefferson, will present House Bill 2031, which provides West Virginia with a police review board, complaint procedures and associate definitions of rights and requirements under proposed legislation.

During the fall fire season - Thursday, Oct. 1, through Thursday, Dec. 31, the City of Martinsburg, W.Va., will restrict outside burning hours to 4 to 8 p.m.

As a special precaution, burning leaves is discouraged.

The first Mister-Miss South Berkeley County (W.Va.) Pageant, sponsored by South Berkeley Little League, has been postponed until early 1999, according to Glenn Macher, president of the South Berkeley Little League's board of directors.

No date has been set for the new event, originally set for Saturday, Oct. 3, Macher said.

The Chambersburg Area Council of Republican Women, in conjunction with the Chambersburg Area Republican Club, will hold the annual Fall Candidates Night at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Penn Hall, 1425 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, Pa.

The Greater Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce is holding its 78th annual dinner meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the Waynesboro Country Club, 11000 Country Club Road, Waynesboro, Pa.

A membership and guest reception will be at 6:15 p.m. Dinner will be at 7 p.m.

The menu includes fruit salad, tossed salad, roast beef with stuffing and gravy, fried chicken, succotash, sauteed zucchini and tomatoes, roasted red potatoes and seasonal cobblers.

Entertainment will be provided by comedian Peggy Dawson.
