Light to be installed near Musselman High

September 18, 1998

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A temporary traffic light will be up at the new Musselman High School within the next month, Berkeley County Sheriff Ronald Jones told the Berkeley County Commission on Thursday.

Pleas for help to local delegates finally reaped the promise of a temporary light until a regular light can be installed, Jones said.

Jones said he thought it was ridiculous that a new school was built without putting in a light to safely handle bus and car traffic at the beginning and end of the school day. The light was in future plans, but should have been installed before the school opened, he said.

All the traffic flows onto U.S. 11, creating an unsafe, congested situation, he said.

Jones said he's been sending deputies and reserve deputies to monitor traffic there while he lobbied for the light.

"The safety of the children is so important," said Jones, who said he used to drive a school bus.
