Clear Spring girls get first soccer win

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Ashley Andrews scored a pair of goals to lead Clear Spring to its first ever victory Tuesday, 2-1 over Hedgesville.

Christine James had an assist and Karri Mowen had 12 saves for the Blazers (1-2).

Hedgesville outshot Clear Spring, 13-6. Melissa Tippett scored off a penalty kick for Hedgesville.

Clear Spring won the junior varsity game, 5-1.

Jefferson 3, Goretti 0

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Bobbi Johnson scored two goals on assists by Amy Edwards to lead No. 2 Jefferson over No. 3 St. Maria Goretti.

Nicole Brown scored and Jenniffer Russell added an assist for Jefferson (5-0-1).

Jefferson outshot Goretti, 20-7. The Gaels fall to 5-2.

Thomas Johnson 2, Jefferson 1

FREDERICK, Md. - Michael Melcher scored an unassisted goal in the first half as No. 1 Thomas Johnson defeated No. 7 Jefferson.

Robb Waskom scored one minute later off a throw in by Matt Palm to build a 2-0 halftime lead.

Bryan Jones would scored five minutes into the second half for Jefferson (4-1-3) off an assist by Efran Creamer.

Thomas Johnson (3-0) outshot Jefferson, 16-6. Andrew Link had five saves for the Patriots and Kyle Carter had 12 saves for the Cougars.

Chambersburg 6, Shipp. 0

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Kyle Staley scored two goals and an assist to lead No. 4 Chambersburg over Shippensburg.

Ashley Mills added a goal and an assist for Chambersburg (5-0).

North 4, Walkersville 1

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - John Muto scored two goals and added an assist to lead No. 6 North to a Monocacy Valley Athletic League victory.

Michael Hudak scored a goal and added two assists, Josh Gouker scored, and Scott Keasey had an assist for the Hubs (3-1, 3-0).

North outshot Walkersville (0-2-1, 0-1-1), 19-4.

North also won the JV contest, 5-0.

FSK 2, Brunswick 1

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Jay Robertson scored both goals to lead FSK (1-2) in an MVAL match.

Louis Plummer scored the lone goal for Brunswick (0-3, 0-2). Justin Wilt had 13 saves for the Railroaders.

Calvary 2, Heritage 1

Simon Hoogland connected on a pair of second-half goals to lead Calvary over Heritage Academy.

Ben Jordan scored in the first half to give Heritage (1-3) the lead at halftime. Jonathan Britton had nine saves.

Boiling Springs 2, Greencastle 1

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Tony Simonetti scored Greencastle's lone goal off an assist by Rich Polifka in the Blue Devils' loss to Boiling Springs.

Greencastle (3-2) outshot Boiling Springs, 21-20. Ben Pierce had nine saves for the Blue Devils.

Josh Fleischman and Andy Birmingham scored for Boiling Springs.

Boonsboro 3, Walkersville 0

BOONSBORO - Amy Wagner had 100 percent serving and six digs to lead Boonsboro to a 15-9, 15-2, 15-10 MVAL win over Walkersville.

Katrina Woodhams added four kills, twelve digs and two aces, while Jade Whipp had eight points and three kills for the Warriors (3-0, 3-0).

Calvary 3, Heritage 1

Julie Poe scored 15 service points and six kills to lead Heritage (0-4).

Jenny Baker had six service points and five kills, Stephanie Wann had six service points, four aces, five assists and three kills, and Courtney Johnson added six service points.

Broadfording 2, Rosedale 1

WINCHESTER, Va. - Vanessa Ruffin served nine straight points in Game 1 as Broadfording beat Rosedale.

Game scores were 15-10, 1-15, 15-8. Ruffin finished with 12 service points for the Lions (2-2).

Goretti 3, Catoctin 2

Mandy Hoffman had 12 kills and 12 points as St. Maria Goretti rallied to defeat Catoctin.

Game scores were 8-15, 12-15, 15-4, 15-11, 15-5. Julie Sanicola and Hannah Chambers had 15 assists each, Jennifer Piccolomini had seven kills, Jaelithe Sing had 13 points and Sanicola had 12 points for the Gaels (2-3).

Leanne Manning had 13 points and Karen Lewis and Kristi Lenhart had 10 points each for Catoctin (0-3).

Grace 3, MCA 0

Heather Kendall had nine assists for Grace Academy as the Eagles defeated Martinsburg Christian Academy 15-2, 15-4, 15-5.

Beth Kendall had six kills and Joanna Conner had seven aces for Grace (3-0).

Highland View 3, Spencerville 0

SPENCERVILLE, Md. - Monica Jackson had nine points in Game 3 as Highland View Academy beat Spencerville.

Game scores were 15-4, 15-8, 16-14. Allison Tooley had six points and two aces and Maureen Santos had five points in game two for Highland View (6-0).

Applemen win quad-match

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Josh Spreng fired a 37 at Cacapon Golf Course, leading Goretti to a second-place finish.

Chris Butcher shot a 41 to lead Musselman to the team victory. Nathan Bergdoll shot a 41 for Moorefield, and Matt Omps shot a 43 for Berkeley Springs.

Team scores: Musselman 170, Goretti 174, Moorefield 183, Berkeley Springs 183

Middletown wins tri-match

Middletown's Travis Ausherman and Brunswick's Chad Kennedy shared medalist honors, each firing a 39 at Beaver Creek Country Club.
