Washington Township halts outdoor burning

September 15, 1998

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - An outdoor burning ban is in effect in Washington Township, Pa., until further notice.

"It's really dry out there," said Township Manager Michael Christopher. He said the ban will remain in effect until there is "an appreciable amount of rain."

The ban includes burning brush, using burn barrels for trash and any outdoor furnaces or incinerators, Christopher said. Township residents can still use charcoal or gas grills, however.

Christopher said the burn ban was initiated Monday on the recommendation of James Meeks, the township's emergency management coordinator.
