W.Va. man dies in accident

September 14, 1998

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia State Police are investigating the cause of a single-vehicle accident on W.Va. 9 that killed a Kearneysville, W.Va., man and seriously injured a Martinsburg, W.Va., man early Sunday.

The accident happened around 4 a.m. near the entrance to the Shiloh subdivision, according to Trooper G.S. Petsko.

David Lewis Nelson, 31, of Kearneysville, was heading east in a 1988 Ford Ranger when the truck went off the northern edge of the road, struck a utility pole, then spun into a tree, Petsko said in a press release issued Sunday.

Emergency workers from the Shepherdstown and Independent volunteer fire departments extricated Nelson and a passenger, Christopher Scott Brown, 25, of Martinsburg, from the truck, Petsko said.

Brown was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., where he was in fair condition late Sunday, according to an administrative supervisor.
