SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - A Southampton Township man was treated and released from Chambersburg Hospital after he was run over by his own pickup truck Thursday afternoon, according to a nursing supervisor.

Pennsylvania State Police said John Samuel Byers, 78, of 7367 White Church Road, was injured at about 2 p.m. when the pickup in his driveway drifted and ran over him.

The police report said the incident is under investigation, although no foul play was suspected.




CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Borough police are investigating an attempted burglary early Friday at a cigarette store.

The report said someone tried to pry open a side door of the Choice Cigarette Discount Outlet Store, 700 Lincoln Way West. Several wires leading into the building were cut, causing the burglar alarm to be set off at 4:20 a.m., police said.




CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Thursday night fire along a railroad line in Chambersburg is under investigation by the Chambersburg Police Department.

The report said the fire was called in at 8:02 p.m. and occurred along the CSX highline tracks near Ramsey Avenue. Chambersburg Fire Department firefighters quickly put out a brush fire between the tracks, police said.
