Pick's Place I finishes second in USSSA World Series

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Pick's Place I of Hagerstown failed to protect a one-run lead in the seventh inning of the championship game to finish second in the USSSA World Series this weekend despite battling through the losers' bracket to reach the finals.

Pick's led Easton, of Boston, 26-25 heading into the seventh inning but allowed 15 runs and lost 40-30 in the finals. By taking second, Pick's Place I received a berth in the USSSA Super World Series in Lubbock, Texas, on Sept. 25-28. Pick's Place I (92-14) has played in 13 tournaments this season and finished in the top two on 10 occasions.

Pick's Place lost the opening game of the tournament, 23-19 to St. Mark's of Long Island, N.Y., before winning five straight games to reach the finals.

Mick Byers, Tony Corbin, Mike Saltz, Steve McKimmy and John Hartle were selected to the All-World first team. Rocky Wills, Jeff Reynolds. Bill Bakner Glen Himes and Kenny Kirby each hit better than .700 for the tournament.
