Hagerstown police charge several after drug sting

Eleven people face drug charges in the wake of a sting operation conducted in the Jonathan Street area Friday night by Hagerstown City Police and the Washington County Narcotics Task Force.

During the sting, officers posing as drug dealers offered to sell a fake substance that closely resembled crack cocaine to would-be buyers.

Police said the following Hagerstown residents were charged with possessing/purchasing a noncontrolled substance reasonably believed to be a controlled dangerous substance:

- Ruben Berrious, 27, of 921 Main Ave. in Hagerstown.

- Robert Dodd Leighton, 40, of 145 E. Franklin St. in Hagerstown.

- Gary Jay Goodridge, 35, of 16304 McGregor Drive in Hagerstown.

- Teresa Marie Shatzer, 35, of 119 High St. in Hagerstown.

- Cecil Lauren Robinson, 34, of 45 Manor Drive in Hagerstown.

- Virginia Josephine Yeager, 38, of 1210 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown.

- Bradley James Melzer, 32, of Air View Apartments in Hagerstown.


Also charged were:

- Terry Lee Barthlow, 35, of 18622 Terminal Drive in Hagerstown. Barthlow was charged with possession of marijuana.

- Lashawnn Brown, 30, of 3111 N.W. 210 Terrace, Miami, Fla. Brown was charged with possession of marijuana.

- Emma Lue Myer, 42, of 619 W. Franklin St. in Hagerstown. Myer was charged with possession of cocaine.

- Early Lee Scott, 23, of no fixed address. Scott was charged with possession of cocaine, and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

None of the people charged were in custody at the Washington County Detention Center Saturday night. A spokeswoman in booking said she only had record of one, Emma Lue Myer, who posted $3,000 bond and was released Saturday afternoon.

City police said they and the Narcotics Task Force will continue to conduct sting operations on a random basis which target both users and dealers operating in the Hagerstown community.
