Civil War books donated

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - A portion of the Peter Seaborg Collection of Civil War books has been donated to the George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War at Shepherd College.

The books, totaling 489 volumes, are valued at $12,150.

Seaborg founded and operated Rock Creek Bookshop in Washington, D.C., a used bookstore that was recognized as having one of the best Civil War collections in the area. He was a member of the Second Maine Cavalry re-enactment unit, the Civil War Roundtable and the Friends of Ft. Ward Museum and Historic Site in Alexandria, Va.

Other portions of the collection were donated by the Ft. Ward Museum and the U.S. Civil War Center in Louisiana.
