Campaign signs found on city property

September 01, 1998

Election campaign and yard sale signs do not belong on property owned by the City of Hagerstown, officials said Tuesday.

The matter arose after City Councilwoman Susan Saum-Wicklein told the Public Works Department manager during Tuesday's work session to have campaign signs removed from city property.

Manager Doug Stull said he already had removed some signs, which the election board directed to be taken to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II said signs for yard sales and weight loss programs should be removed from telephone poles, speed limit signs, stop signs and two-hour parking signs.
