CASCADE, Mont. - Clyde W. Foster, 78, of Cascade, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at Deaconess Hospital, Great Falls, Mont., following a stroke.

Born in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late John H. and Beatrice M. Snapp Foster.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Arabelle P. Foster; a brother, Hesbia C. Foster of Frederick, Md., and Naples, Fla.; three sisters, Evelyn J. Alger and Iva Lee Johnson, both of Frederick, and Meta H. Foster of Martinsburg; nieces and nephews.

Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Cascade, Mont. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Cascade.

Memorial donations may be made to United Methodist Church, Cascade, Mont. 59421; or to a charity of one's choice.

Hubert B. Guessford

Hubert Bradley Guessford, 74, of 1014 Jefferson Blvd., died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at his home.

Born Jan. 21, 1924, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Minerva Myers Guessford.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Louise Guessford, in 1992.

He was employed by Hagerstown City Light for 15 years. He earlier was employed at the Maryland Correctional Institution as a guard for 25 years.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II.

He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

He was a member of American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42.

He is survived by a friend, Ruth Spurdens of Hagerstown.

Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Lauren Lay will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. Hagerstown.

Harvey A. Mellott Jr.

FORT LOUDON, Pa. - Harvey A. Mellott Jr., 77, of 12807 Main St., died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at Avalon Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown.

Born May 7, 1921, in Peters Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Harvey A. and Minerva Walker Mellott Sr.

He operated a dairy farm on Route 75 South, Mercersburg, Pa., for 33 years, retiring in 1986. He later worked for Mount Parnell Fisheries, Inc. of Fort Loudon, Pa., for five years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Clayton Memorial Church of God, Mercersburg. He attended Evangel Assembly of God Church in McConnellsburg, Pa.

He was a former member of Pennsylvania Farmers Association.

He hunted.

He is survived by his wife, Betty M. Snyder Mellott, whom he married Nov. 8, 1947; three daughters, Ruby I. Bard of Lemasters, Pa., Nancy M. Mellott and Penny S. Mellott, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Helen Armstrong and Ethel McLaughlin, both of Mercersburg; and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by a grandson; a sister, and a brother.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Belvy C. White and the Rev. Floyd E. Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Stenger Hill Cemetery, Fort Loudon. Military graveside services will be conducted by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Miriam L. Newman

SMITHSBURG - Miriam L. Newman, 80, of West Water Street, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at her home.

Born Nov. 7, 1917, near Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late Frank W. and Mary A. Hershey Stouffer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard P. Newman, in 1986.

She was employed with Doubleday Co. in Smithsburg, retiring in 1979.

She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Washington County Temperance Union, serving as secretary and treasurer.

She is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Alter of Waynesboro, Pa., and Emma Dunn of Maxton, N.C.; two brothers, Paul H. Stouffer of Waynesboro and John W. Stouffer of Smithsburg; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Thursday at 8 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., in Smithsburg. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ's Reformed Church, 130 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Margaret J. Coles

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Margaret J. Coles, 71, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born Jan. 14, 1927, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Granville Dennis and Margaret Johns Roman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Coles.

She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and was on the Senior Usher Board.
