Hagerstown to get welcome sign on west side

August 28, 1998

A "Welcome To Hagerstown" sign is expected to be posted at the west entrance to the city by November, said Cynthia Hutchinson, president of the Inter Service Club Council.

The club council will pay for the sign, which was originally expected to go up in the spring. The sign will be posted along Washington Avenue at Nottingham Road.

Seals for the City of Hagerstown and several clubs will be on the sign.

City Council members voted 4-0 on Tuesday to approve a license agreement with the council for the sign. Councilman Lewis C. Metzner was absent.

The city would own and maintain the sign.

A similar sign is on the east side of the city by Municipal Golf Course.
