The Washington County Board of Education treated employees of the Hancock Middle/Senior High School to a banquet Tuesday in honor of their Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award.

In May, Hancock was one of 172 schools in the country to be given the national award, the highest honor that can be bestowed on a public or private school.

Schools Superintendent Herman G. Bartlett Jr. said the school administration wanted to recognize the efforts of the school, which has dramatically improved test scores in recent years, and hold it up as a model for other schools in the county to follow.
