Unity March set for Saturday

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Debra J. Hart, state director of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, will be the keynote speaker at the Unity March and Family Festival on Saturday at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown.

The march commemorates the 35th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s March on Washington, D.C. The procession will begin at 11 a.m. at the Christ Reformed Church on East German Street in Shepherdstown. It will proceed west on German Street to the intersection with Duke Street and south on Duke Street (W.Va. 480) to the church. Vehicles will be available to take marchers back to their cars.

Hart is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of individual equal employment opportunity programs for state offices, coupled with conducting effective human resources training programs.

A graduate of West Virginia State College, she is a member of the Governor's Minority Business Task Force, United States Commission on Civil Rights, Fairmont State College Board of Advisors and the Equal Pay Commission.

Beginning at 1 p.m., march and festival participants will be addressed by Hart and other state and local officials.

Among those performing at the festival will be singers Barbara Stenger, Jonathan Williams, Ruth Raubertas, Margaret Byrne, Curtis Grantham, Ardeth Gilbertson, Ambassadors of Christ Choir, the Multicultural Community Choir, Mighty Men of God Chorus, dancer Tracy Smith and the Shepherdstown Youth Center Dancers.
