Anniversary announcements

The DeLauders

Mr. and Mrs. William M. DeLauder were honored at a 50th wedding anniversary dinner Friday, July 3, 1998, at Airport Inn in Hagerstown.

The dinner was hosted by their two sons, Jeffrey DeLauder and his friend Barbara Roulette and Andrew and Cynthia DeLauder.

The DeLauders were married July 3, 1948, at Christ's Reformed Church by the late Rev. Frederick Eyster.

Mrs. DeLauder is the former Helen LeFevre, daughter of the late Guy and Anna LeFevre. She was employed at Fairchild Aircraft.

Mr. DeLauder is the son of the late Milton and Lulu DeLauder. He retired from Beachley Furniture Co.

They have one granddaughter.

The Shiflers

Siebert and Mary Shifler of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, July 26, 1998, at a luncheon reception at Red Men Lodge in Williamsport.


The celebration was hosted by their four children and their spouses, Carroll and Carolyn Shifler, Barbara and Harold Younkins, Donald and Andrea Shifler, all of Hagerstown, and Laura and Kirk Anderson of Williamsport. The couple's grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members and friends attended.

The Shiflers were married July 25, 1948, at Benevola United Methodist Church in Boonsboro by the late Rev. Curvin Thompson.

Mrs. Shifler is the former Mary Roelke, daughter of the late Roger and Grace Roelke. She was a homemaker before she started working for her husband's electrical contracting business.

Mr. Shifler is the son of the late Shirley and Ellen Shifler. He worked for Potomac Edison Co. for 16 years and started his own electrical and later heating/cooling contracting business 35 years ago, Shifler Electrical Associates Inc.

The Shiflers have five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Kendles

Elizabeth and Robert Eugene Kendle Sr. celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Monday, Aug. 17, 1998.

Congratulations are extended by their children and their spouses, Robert and Glenda Kendle Jr., Jerry and Charlotte Kendle, James and Wanda Kendle, William Kendle, and Steven and Patricia Kendle as well as their 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The Kendles were married Aug. 17, 1938 in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Kendle is the former Elizabeth "Lib" Jane Sinnisen, daughter of the late Roger Ray and Elenora Grace Easterday Sinnisen.

Mr. Kendle is the son of the late Martha Isabelle Stine Kendle and Preston Miller Kendle Sr.

The Kendles have been life-long farmers, and still run their 42-acre farm near Hagerstown. Mrs. Kendle also worked as a nurse's aide at Coffman Home for 15 years. Mr. Kendle also worked with Smith Trucking for 15 years.

The Speakers

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer E. Speaker of Pinesburg celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, June 13, 1998, at the Alsatia Club in Hagerstown.

The celebration was attended by approximately 100 friends and relatives.

The celebration was hosted by the couple's seven children and their spouses: Ronald and Peggy Speaker, Rebecca and Arthur Rowland Sr., Sharon and Robert Kimmel Jr., Tracy and Michael Speaker Sr., Debra and Kenneth Churchey, Roger and Angela Speaker and Phyllis and Rick Kennedy.

The Speakers were married in a double ceremony with Frank and Betty (Bair) Keeney, June 11, 1948, by the Rev. William Norris in the parsonage of the former Williamsport Church of God.

Mrs. Speaker is the former Martha L. Higgins, daughter of the late David and Susan Higgins.

Mr. Speaker is the son of the late Resley and Mary Speaker. He retired from Hagerstown Kitchens.

The Speakers have been Herald-Mail carriers for the last 15 years in the Pinesburg, Kemps Mill, Bottom Road and Cedar Ridge Road areas.

They have 12 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
