Center Street Store open

August 20, 1998

The Center Street Store, which eventually will deliver groceries to senior citizens, opened Monday, said Ron Harsh, executive director of the Washington County Human Development Council.

Convenience items such as milk, bread and coffee are available at the 401 Center St. store, Harsh said.

Harsh said he expected employees to start making deliveries and selling cold sandwiches in mid-September.

The human development council's mentally and physically disabled clients apply to get on-the-job training in the neighborhood store before moving on to other jobs. Six council clients and one instructor are working at the store, Harsh said.

Store hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, Harsh said.
