Frederick woman sexually assaulted

FREDERICK, Md. - A 40-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in her home in the 100 block of West South Street on Thursday evening, according to the Frederick Police Department.

A man accosted the woman outside her home before forcing inside, where he sexually assaulted her, police said.

The attacker was described as white with blond hair and a moustache, about 5-foot-10 and weighing about 175 pounds, police said.

No further information was available.

Hagerstown man faces charges

Speeding on Oak Ridge Drive early Friday led to numerous charges against a 26-year-old Hagerstown man, Washington County Sheriff's deputies said.


Douglas Michael Mann, of 12926 Point Salem Road, was clocked doing 77 mph in a 30 mph zone on Oak Ridge Drive by Deputy First Class Robert Whittington, police said.

When the officer stopped the vehicle in the Oak Ridge apartment complex, both occupants fled, according to police.

Mann later was apprehended and charged with speeding, fleeing police, reckless driving, driving while suspended and driving while intoxicated, police said.

It turns out Mann also is wanted on a warrant for other unspecified charges, police said.

Mann was being held Friday night at the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of $15,000 bond, police said.

The passenger was released and not charged, police said.

Florida couple involved in wreck

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Florida couple escaped serious injury early Friday when their GMC minivan and travel trailer were hit by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 81 around 2 a.m.

The big rig, driven by Mickey Rollison of Simpsonville, S.C., was northbound in the slow lane when it approached the rear of the minivan/travel trailer operated by John and May Powley of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Attempting to make a lane change, the rig hit the Powley vehicles, causing them to flip and come to rest in the median, police said.

The tractor-trailer then struck the Milnor Road overpass and ended up on the east berm, police said.

The Powleys were wearing their seat belts and suffered minor injuries, police said.

The road was closed until 5 a.m.

Two chain saws reported stolen

On Thursday, Maryland State Police investigated the theft of two Stihl chain saws, valued at $1,100, from 12064 Smithfield Farm Lane.

Also on Thursday, a new 1998 Pontiac Sunfire was damaged to the tune of $100 when someone threw a lit cigarette into the car while it was parked at the Park 'N Ride on Sharpsburg Pike, police said.

Pa. woman wrecks Jeep near Md. line

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - A 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport went out of control about a mile north of the Maryland line at 11:30 p.m. Thursday and hit a pole, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The driver, Tina M. Houdersheldt, 30, of Warfordsburg, Pa., was wearing her seat belt and was not hurt, police said.

She was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

Man charged in wife's assault

A Hagerstown man was charged with assault on Friday night after his wife was struck around 6:20 p.m., according to Hagerstown City Police.

Larry Eugene Golliday, 21, of 835 Rose Hill Ave., was scheduled to appear before a Washington County District Court Commissioner on Friday night for a bond hearing, police said.

2 men face drug charges

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - A Fayetteville man and a Hagerstown man were charged with possession of marijuana on Friday night at a routine traffic checkpoint, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Police said as Terrance Thompson, of Fayetteville, was warned about driving on a suspended driver's license police noticed he tried to push evidence under the seat with his foot.

Derrick Jones, a passenger in the green Honda Accord, also was charged, police said.
