Four-run ninth gives Suns win

August 11, 1998

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Lorenzo Bagley drove in the game-winning run Monday night to set off a four-run ninth that gave the Hagerstown Suns a 4-0 victory over the Cape Fear Crocs.

Bagley's heroics were overshadowed, however, by an incident earlier in his at-bat. Bagley had earlier swung at a pitch and lost the grip on his bat on a warm, muggy night. The bat flew into the stands and hit a spectator in the head. She received attention for the rest of the game and several minutes afterward, but appeared to be fine.

The Suns (24-28, 68-54 overall) sent eight men to the plate in the ninth, and got all four runs with two outs. After Bagley's single scored Cesar Izturis, who led off the inning with a double, Bobby Cripps knocked in a run with a single. Two batters later, Mike Young finished the scoring with a two-run single.

Both starting pitchers were outstanding despite getting no decision. In his second start for the Suns, Hagerstown's Leo Estrella allowed five hits and struck out six in 7 2/3 innings, while Cape Fear's Brandon Agamennone allowed only two hits in seven innings. He struck out eight.
