Road work to close intersections

Several downtown intersections will be closed through Friday as road crews continue to drill holes for new traffic signal poles, according to the contractor.

Mulberry Avenue will be closed between Franklin Street and Washington Street today, weather-permitting, said Gary Street, project manager for Lockheed Martin.

South Locust Street from East Antietam Street to East Lee Street also will be closed at some point during that week, since the street is so narrow, Street said.

The following intersections will be closed at times during that week:

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* " NATURALSIZEFLAG="0" ALIGN="BOTTOM"> North Potomac Street and North Avenue.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* " NATURALSIZEFLAG="0" ALIGN="BOTTOM"> North Potomac and Church streets.

Also, there will be random lane closures along Washington and Franklin streets.

The contractor's crews have shut all other work down while they drill 10-foot-deep holes for the signal poles between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., Street said.
