A K-9 search through a wooded area of Hagerstown led to the arrest of a local man, who was charged with second-degree assault, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Kevin Lloyd Houck, 32, was charged in the assault, which was reported at about 2 a.m. Sunday, according to a release from the sheriff's department.

Carissa Marian Nicewarner, 35, said she was involved in an argument and was punched in the face, according to the release. Her assailant left prior to the arrival of police, the release said.

The sheriff's department was assisted by a Maryland State Police K-9 unit, which tracked a man down to a wooded area near the residence, where he was arrested, according to the release.


Nicewarner was taken to Washington County Hospital's emergency room by ambulance for treatment, according to the release.

FREDERICK, Md. - A Prince George's County man was arrested and charged with first-degree assault in the attack of a man with a baseball bat near the Willow Tree Car Wash, according to a release from the Frederick Police Department.

Tyrone V. Morina, 21, of Capitol Heights, Md., was charged with first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and use of a deadly weapon with intent to injure, according to the release.

After responding to the reported assault at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, police found the victim laying on the ground with head injuries, the release said.

He was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for an orbital fracture and received several stitches over his right eye, the release said. The victim was released from the hospital, according to the release.

A description of the suspect's vehicle led to an arrest, according to the release.

FREDERICK, Md. - Several people were injured in an accident on Interstate 70 at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the Maryland State Police.

A 1985 Chevy Blazer heading westbound near U.S. 15 turned from the right lane to enter an emergency crossover and moved into the path of a 1994 Dodge van, police said. The van struck the Blazer's left rear side, police said.

The van's driver and all of its passengers were transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital by ambulance, police said. All were treated and released, police said.

The Blazer's driver and two of its passengers were taken to area hospitals by state troopers, police said. The vehicle's third passenger was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital by ambulance, police said.

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - One or more shooters put five bullet holes in another man's 1974 Chevrolet at about 2 a.m. Friday, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

The vehicle was parked outside the victim's residence on Black Oak Road, police said.

THURMONT, Md. - A high-speed chase late Friday night reached 120 mph before the driver of a 1995 Mazda abandoned his car at a dead end and fled from police on foot, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

At 10:24 p.m., Frederick Sheriff's Deputy James Fogle saw the Mazda speeding northbound on U.S. 15 near Hayward Road, police said.

Fogle turned on his lights and siren to pull over the car, police said. The Mazda sped up and exited U.S. 15 at Tippen Drive, police said. When the car reached the dead end of Tippen Drive, the driver and his passenger ran into the woods, police said.

The K-9 unit was called and tracked the suspects through the woods. Both were found a short distance from the car, police said.

Vincent Elwin Brown, 21, of Pleasantville, N.J., was taken into custody and charged with speeding, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding an officer, and other driving offenses, police said. The passenger was not charged, police said.

Brown was arraigned Saturday, and his bond was set at $8,500, according to a spokesman at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center. Brown was still being held at the jail Sunday, the spokesman said.

Three bicycles valued at $150 were stolen from a house at 17632 Burnside Ave., according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The three bikes - a blue Murray 10-speed, a 27-inch bike and a dark green child's bike - were taken between 3 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday, according to deputies.

HANCOCK - Traffic on Interstate 70 was delayed about an hour Sunday night after a 24-foot truck overturned near Exit 3, according to Maryland State Police.

There were no serious injuries as a result of the 8:09 p.m. wreck, which occurred in the eastbound lane, police said.
