Virginia L. Michael

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Virginia Lee Michael, 84, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Heartland of Martinsburg.

Born Sept. 10, 1913, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Martin Ezra and Nellie Lamar Michael.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one niece, Susan M. Harding of Inwood, W.Va.; one great-niece; and her sister-in-law, Petie Michael, with whom she resided.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles L. Michael.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Al Clipp will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today and Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Jacob E. Beckley Jr.

WARREN, Ohio - The Rev. Jacob Edgar Beckley Jr., 76, of 632 Champion St., East Warren, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at his home.

Born Feb. 1, 1922, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late J. Edgar Beckley Sr., and Myrtle Crabill.

He attended Practical Bible Training School and was ordained in 1945.

He retired from Bazetta Baptist Church in 1994. He also was a pastor for churches in Maryland, New York, New Jersey, West Virginia and Ohio.

He was a member of Bethany Baptist Fellowship.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl J. Beckley of Champion, Ohio, whom he married Dec. 20, 1940; one daughter, Andrea Houck of Champion; two sons, J. Edgar Beckley III of Binghamton, N.Y., and Philip Beckley of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Dorothy Beckley of Hagerstown and Rosemarie Hauser of Cortland, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Myers and Loretta Henson; and three brothers, Howard Beckley, Kenneth Beckley and Harold Beckley.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 N. Park Ave., Warren. Burial will be in Champion Township Cemetery in Champion.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Garfield N. McClanathan

Garfield Newton McClanathan, 85, of Martinsburg, W.Va., was born May 24, 1913. He was self-employed, and lived most of his life in Hagerstown.

Irma V. Thomas

BOONSBORO - Irma Vivian Thomas, 76, of 19523 Mill Point Road, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 20, 1922, in St. James, she was the daughter of the late Ivan C. and Alice A. Beachley Reid.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, where she was a former children's Sunday school teacher.

She also was a member of AARP.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Jason Thomas Sr., whom she married Oct. 6, 1945; three daughters, Alice M. Michael, Sally L. Bowers and Rebecca S. Thomas, all of Boonsboro; two sons, Howard J. Thomas Jr. of Rockville and Kenneth E. Thomas of Boonsboro; one sister, Mae Bennett of Hagerstown; two brothers, Jacob Reid of Funkstown, and Charles Reid of Halfway; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Reid and Paul Reid.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Kenneth J. Harrington will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mildred R. Coughlin

RANSON, W.Va. - Mildred Rita Coughlin, 75, of Ranson, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at her home.

Born March 14, 1923, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Marie Maccitis Maguire of Pennsylvania, and the late Joseph Maguire.

Her husband, William H. Coughlin Sr., died in 1994.

She was a housewife.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town, W.Va.

She is survived by one daughter, Elaine Willis of Charles Town; two sons, William H. Coughlin Jr. of Charles Town, and Gerald F. Coughlin of Mount Airy, Md.; two sisters, Dorothy Thomas and June O'Neill, both of Philadelphia; one brother, Joseph Maguire of Norfolk, Va.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 10 nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Memorial donations may be made to Citizens and Independent Fire Companies of Charles Town.

Arrangements are by Rosedale Funeral Chapel.

Georgia E. Keller

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Georgia Etta Keller, 96, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at City Hospital.

Born Sept. 22, 1901, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Julie Masters McDonald.

Her husband, Earl P. Keller, preceded her in death.

She was a member of Winchester Avenue Christian Church.
