Man charged in W.Va. fatal accident

August 06, 1998

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Charles Town man has been charged in a traffic accident in which another man died, authorities said Thursday.

Obie Wines, 31, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol causing death following the Wednesday night accident, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said.

Wines was still at Jefferson Memorial Hospital on Thursday, said Chief Deputy Jesse Jones.

Jones identified the dead man as Glenn Dodson, 33, of Charles Town, who was a passenger in Wines' car.

Wines was driving south on Bloomery Road when the car ran off the road and struck a tree, Jones said.

The 1986 Dodge Lancer struck a second tree, Jones said. The impact caused the car to flip, but the vehicle landed on all four wheels, he said.

The impact of the roll crushed in the roof of the car, Jones said.

Dodson was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
